Finding Articles

Many databases provide access to article information – either article citations (bibliographic information) and/or the full text.  Read more about why to use databases in the box below.

 

Why Use Library Databases?

  1. Many are purchased subscriptions and contain full text articles that may not be freely available on the web.
  2. Many have advanced search engines to help you locate what you need.
  3. Academic databases include primarily scholarly and/or educational material.

Jumpstart Your Research

These are good general databases to use for locating information on most topics.

 

What's In a Word?

Abstract - summary of an article

Citation - bibliographic information; source of article

Database - an organized electronic filing of data into fields for searching

Index - a list (usually alphabetical) of data such as title, author, subject

Peer-reviewed - examined or reviewed by an expert in the field

Source - a book, journal, etc. from which a chapter or article has been obtained
